Tasmanian Motorcycle Tour

Day 7 ~ Sunday - March 11
Port Melbourne - Wagga (Cliff & Ken) ~ 456kms
Port Melbourne - Melbourne CBD (Geoff, Beck, Kim & Guy)
The Bass Strait crossing was uneventful but sleep for most of us was ‘fitful’, we must be getting old, once upon a time using the recliners would have been an adventure in itself.
We had decided the night before that we would breakfast on Port Melbourne foreshore, it wouldn’t be so rushed, it would be more nourishing, less expensive and have a better selection of items. It would also give us more time to say our farewells.
Cliff & Ken were called fairly early for Level 5 and the motorbikes. They told the others that they would wait at the end of the roadway that leads into Station Pier itself. It didn’t take long for everyone to disembark and breakfast was soon organised at
Spuntino with a nice outdoor setting so we could keep the motorbikes in view and have room to put the luggage the others had with them.
Breakfast was very leisurely and made the decision to wait until we disembarked a good one. It wasn’t long though until Cliff & Ken had to make the decision to leave as they still had another 6 hours on the motorbikes to get back to Wagga. Reluctant farewells were said and they departed.
Geoff, Beck, Kim & Guy had the afternoon to spend walking the streets of the city of Melbourne before organising themselves for the next leg of their 3 week ‘down under’ holiday:
  • Geoff & Beck off to the South Island of New Zealand.
  • Kim & Guy to Hamilton Island then to visit friends in Perth and an excursion down to the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
Reflections
Cliff & Ken have discussed this a number of times and still haven’t really resolved the issue.
When you organise something like this:
Do you make it a ‘riding’ holiday - the destinations and tourist attractions are secondary, it is the ‘ride’ that counts?
or
Do you make it a ‘tourist’ holiday, enjoying more time in some of the locations to take in the attractions thus reducing the amount of time you are ‘riding’ on the motorbikes?

But they concluded whatever is decided for the future this particular trip was definitely a ‘riding’ holiday highlighted by the exceptional roads they got to ride in Tasmania.

Thank you to Cliff, Geoff, Beck, Kim, Guy & Ken - this was a great holiday - made even better by the pleasure of your company.
